The Rensselaer Union is proud to have been a partner in raising money for Clothe-A-Child for 35 of its 36 year history. Spear-headed by the Rensselaer Union year-after-year, thousands of dollars have been raised in support of this campaign which provides the funding so that local, area children will be clothed with winter coats, boots, hats and gloves. Opportunity helps children to succeed and be active, participating citizens – just like the students who raise money for this cause year-after-year.

The Rensselaer Union’s Clothe-A-Child Campaign has become a year-round initiative, with events that include bake sales, date auctions, canister passes at hockey games, basket raffles, golf tournaments, wing tasting events, just to name a few. We estimate that over the last 34 years, the Rensselaer Community has contributed more than $116,000 to Clothe-A-Child. And it all started with a Student Union Food Service worker named Lucy Coli who asked students to donate their change when they bought a burger or pizza!

The 2010 Clothe-A-Child Campaign Results A grand total of $6,550.12 was raised for Clothe-A-Child!
The following events and initiatives occurred in 2010:

• Annual Date Auction
  January 29 - The McNeil Room
  This event raised $1,090. It was organized by Bianca Zongrone '10, and Ben Hunt '11 and Tequisha Hendrickson '10 emceed the event.
  
  
• Pictures with Puckman
  February 20 - FREAKOUT! - Houston Field House
  The Union System Administrators raised $34
  
  
• 3rd Annual Wing Tasting
  February 27 - The Union
  Phi Gamma Delta, UPAC Sound, Patti Mugrace, Devon Bushey '10, Josh Smolensky '10 and Humberto Maciel '10, and Jasper from Doane Stuart School helped raise a total of $1,390.
  
  
• GM Week Roast
  Statler & Waldorf collected $234.20 in ticket sales to directly benefit the 2010 Clothe-A-Child Campaign.

• TIPS from the Pub Staff
  The Pub staff donated $543.75 of their tips to Clothe-A-Child.

• dotCIO Bake Sale and Craft Sale
  November 16 and 17, at the library.
  There were 5 crafters and they donated 10% of their sales. All of the proceeds of the bake sale went to Clothe-a-Child.

2008 Clothe-A-Child Campaign Results

In 2008, the Rensselaer Union Clothe-A-Child Committee raised $8,300 for Clothe-A-Child. The Troy Record coverage of the events includes a RPI students aid area kids and Wing-munching frenzy helps kids related to the Wing Tasting event on March 1. The report of Rensselaer's year-end results appreared in the Record on December 25, 2008, in Generous donors put Clothe-A-Child over the top . These are the events that occurred during the 2008 campaign:

• Vintage T-Shirt Sales!
  
  • The Young Actors Guild will sell old YAG t-shirts and donate money collected at the holidays to the campaign.
    
  • The old 'tour' shirts in the Pub will be sold for $10 with all money going to the campaign.
    
  
  
• Cannisters for Clothe-A-Child
  On-going through December, 2008, in the following locations:
  Fathers (in the Union); Post Office (in the Union Games Room); and the RPI Fieldhouse.
  Commit all your loose and returned change to Clothe-A-Child!
  
  
• Father Ed's Cannister Pass at the Hockey Games
  Friday, November 14 and Saturday, November 15
  Cannisters will be passed throughout the stands in the fieldhouse for people to deposit their loose change (and bills!)
  
  
• The Famous Clothe-A-Child Bake Sale!
  Wednesday, December 3 AND Thursday, December 4 (the same days as the Annual Bookstore Sale)
  This popular event has been expanded to TWO DAYS! Campus staff pull out all the stops to create delicious, tasty holiday treats for all.
  
  
• The Basket Raffle!
  December 4, 5, 8, 9 and 10.
  This year's theme is "Our Favorite Past Times!" Check out the neat, creative ideas the community comes up with this year! Preview the baskets at the Bale Sale!

  • The Arnold Air Society dedicated all their proceeds from their annual fundraiser to Clothe-A-Child.
    
  • The Community Service Committee collected donations at the Victorian Stroll Children's Corner for Clothe-A-Child.
