Update on visa issuance in China

The visa call centers will be reopening on Friday, June 4, 2004 at 7:00am, and will be scheduling U.S. visa interview appointments for the following week. The walk-in visa application systems will continue in Begjing, Guanzhou, Chengdu, and Shenyang through June 4. Potential travelers are advised to use the walk-in system on June 3rd and 4th only if their travel is urgent; otherwise, travelers are encouraged to use the visa call center to schedule an appointment. Beginning June 7, walk-in appointments will no longer be accepted.

The visa call center can be reached by dialing 4008-872-333 from anywhere in China. Payment of service charges can be made by buying a pre-paid PIN card at CITIC banks, using a credit card via the Call Center website, or by using a postal/bank order.

Next month, the Call Center will introduce a new, budget pre-paid pin card, which will allow callers to purchase a shorter, cheaper block of call time (eight minutes) rather than the standard twelve minutes of time for the regular card. Please refer to the U.S. Embassy's beijing/China website for further details regarding payment.
