Getting to Rensselaer

Getting to Albany, New York

The easiest way to get to campus is to first fly into Albany Airport (airport code - ALB), which is about 20 minutes from Rensselaer by taxi. Direct flights are available to Albany from New York City, Boston, Chicago, Atlanta, Detroit, and Washington, DC. Easy connecting flights are available from every other U.S. gateway.

Please note that it is less expensive to book your flight to Albany along with your international flight rather than to buy a ticket to Albany after you reach the U.S. Be sure to reconfirm all flights and reservations before leaving your home country.

If you are flying into either Laguardia or JFK Airport in New York City, Premiere Express Shuttle Service provides a shuttle bus service from those airports to the city of Albany, and you can then take a taxi to the Rensselaer campus from there. If you wish to use Premiere Express Shuttle Service, you must make reservations in advance. For more information or to make a reservation, please visit the Premiere website, or call Premiere Express Shuttle Service at the following toll-free phone number:

Getting to Rensselaer's Campus

Unfortunately, Rensselaer does not have a formal shuttle service from the Albany Airport. Once you arrive in Albany, we recommend that you take a taxi from the airport to our campus. Taxis are readily available outside the airport terminal. The taxi ride from the airport to campus should cost about $30.

If you arrive on campus during regular business hours -- between 8:30am and 5:00pm -- ask the taxi driver to take you to the Visitor Information Center (VIC) located near the 15th Street footbridge. You may leave your luggage there while you check in with your department.

If you arrive in the area after office hours, it is advisable to have your taxi take you to any of the nearby hotels for the night. (Please refer to "Temporary accommodations" in the article on Housing for local hotel information.
